“Rachel understands something more than the mere mechanics in her teaching.  She has the necessary empathy to inspire, perhaps the very quintessence of teaching.”

Rachel Andras travels the world with a fly rod for a living.  From trout to tarpon, steelhead to snook, the list of species under her belt makes even the most seasoned angler take notice.  Truth be told, Rachel puts in an honest week’s work at the desk advising others on their own piscatorial pursuits.  The question becomes, how does she capitalize time and time again under such diverse and, at times, adverse conditions?  Simple, the girl can flat out cast.  Thankfully for the rest of us, Rachel is equally at ease teaching the mechanics of fly casting as she is presenting a fly to a tailing bonefish, and just as accomplished.

Like most of us, Rachel learned to cast through the help of a friend and time spent wading a trout stream.  That all changed in 1998 when she formed a friendship with acclaimed casting instructor, Mel Krieger, became a certified casting instructor through the Federation of Fly Fishers, and went on to build youth and adult casting programs for The Fly Shop in Redding, California.  She since formed and taught clinics for The Shasta Mayflies, conducted seminars for the International Women’s Fly Fishers, and ran introductory schools for the Catlin-Gabel School in Portland and both the Ashland Fly Shop and Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

Rachel’s teaching methodology draws from a bachelor’s degree in education, a Krieger centered approach to instruction, and worldwide experience in presentation.  Her passion for teaching extends from the young to the young at heart, from first loops to D loops, and from water hauls to double hauls.
