Jim Andras

While attending Arizona State University in 1993, Jim learned that Glenn Tinnin, a veteran Lees Ferry guide, planned to open a fly shop in Phoenix. A letter and a phone call later, and the doors opened to a profession in the fly fishing industry. After spending a couple of years behind the counter, Jim stepped into guiding for the Telluride Angler in Southwestern Colorado. His passion of trout and travel eventually led him to guide wild rivers throughout Patagonia, Alaska, Kamchatka, and Mongolia. In the fall of 1999, he moved to Redding, California and the following spring, guided an array of the state’s finest trout and steelhead rivers out of The Fly Shop.
In the summer of 2005, Jim moved just over the California border into Southern Oregon. Torn over a constant steelhead addiction and his love of Sacramento River rainbows, he searched for some relief. With year-round steelhead opportunities just outside the front door and still an easy, straight shot to the “Sac” Jim found Ashland a perfect fit. In 2007, while conducting a year-long experiment as a company sales representative for a local reel manufacturer, his thoughts often reflected back to a Lees Ferry trip with his Dad in 1985. Turns out, guide, Terry Gunn, still at it after 25 years, sealed Jim’s fate that day. Today, back behind the oars full-time, Jim’s got some catching up to do.
